Alexandra Victoria Karin Constantia Slesvig-Holsten-Sønderborg-Lyksborg, Countess von Zutphen, is a woman born to rule and has the bloodline to do so. Her Danish head with its Nordic almost silver hair looks as if it was born to wear a crown. When it comes to her other looks, she is a typical ice maiden with very pale skin and ice blue eyes. Years of various finishing schools have given her the walk and posture of an empress. Everyone agrees that this nineteen year old will be the belle of her first season.
Katherine, as she’s come to be called, reads the paper every morning and is considered to be intelligent without being a bluestocking. Her real passion, oddly, is the theater. Attending a good opera or a Shakespeare play makes her smile winsomely.
Katherine is the daughter of Prince Paul of Greece and the late Margit of the house of Bernadotte, so she enjoys the statis of the daughter of an earl. The royal family, being distant cousins through Alexandra, has kindly permitted the family to keep their titles, even if they are empty and carry no lands and money.
When Katherine was twelve, her father married Lady Lily Foyat and acquired the Belgravian Foyat House. Although once worn out and almost falling to pieces, Foyat House has been turned into one of the best showplaces in London. The house is richly furnished and well landscaped, and the London home of Prince Paul.
From spending five years in boring school, Katherine has acquired many talents. These include skills in watercoloring, riding, manners, playing the piano, singing, and fox hunting. She speaks many languages fluently: Danish, Swedish, French, and English. No matter the language she speaks, she can not get rid of a strong Danish accent.
The family is remarkably happy. Many nights are given to music while reading aloud. Prince Paul relaxes his regal disposition when Katherine looks at him with her mother’s eyes and smile. The relationship between Lily and Katherine is one of harmony.
