As Jot mentions in his most recent post,
At one point, I was ready to begin development of the "Encyclopedia Antica," a knowledge base that the community could build that would be as factual as possible. But this would not be the vines. It would be a component of the community, integrated with it. When I learned of the Wikipedia project, I thought that it has been done. But perhaps it is time to consider such a project?
I remember waaaaaay back in early AW days, Jot had actually prototyped timelines for ancient history - Julilla, Tante and I worked on 'em in beta, among others. At one point we actually hoped to link, say, Roman Alexandria and groups on, say, Rome in ancient Egypt, to the timeline showing, say, 30 BC, Octavian up, Cleo & Antony down, so that if you came looking for groups and 'hoods and things that related to Rome in Egypt, you could find links to all those things. We very quickly figured out this was an organizational nightmare and the energy of the site went into other things. But Jot's regularly talked about his Encyclopaedia Antica idea, and I've always loved it.
And as you said, there's a lot of constructive energy in history on the site. Jot, what WOULD it take to bring back the EA idea? I'd love somehow listing my place in Crete, which is set in Minoan days, to a timeline showing the history of Hellas/Crete, and you could just expand that idea ad infinitum??
