AW is a big place. AW has a lot of stuff going on. Pretty much AW has stuff for anybody who is at all interested in participating in an online community.
You like festivals? Work on one and/or attend one. You don't like festivals? Don't participate.
You don't like the hoods? Don't work on a hood. You like the hoods? Work on one.
The groups are inactive? So join one and make it active. If the leaders are really gone from AW, consult the demis to see if you can be added as an officer. (They might say yes. They might say no. You never know what a demi is going to say until you ask.)
I do think that it would be a good idea if a process could be developed so departed leaders can be supplemented by new people. (Although I feel very strongly that the group founders ought not to be removed. You don't know WHY they are absent after all. I also feel that groups shouldn't be deleted just because they are in active. How would you feel if you were very ill for a long time and then returned to find you'd been ejected from your own group?)
Why can't old groups just remain on the boards for the value, whatever that might be, of the posts there? It's a history site. Can't we keep the history?
And now… I have a question:
WHY does it bother people so much that certain groups are inactive?
Is the server space costing the site that much? (If so then I guess there is a problem with inactive groups.) But Jot has set up the group pages so one can see when the most recent posts were made. If there hasn't been any posts done for several months… that really ought to be enough notice that the group is inactive.
