Living with a handicapped person, whether mentally or physically, is a heavy burden. They easily become the center of your life and of other people's lives. How fair is that?

What I mean is: how fair is it for a normal person to abdicate from a normal life because their child, or sibling, is disabled?

Still they carry the weight with courage and grace; and usually don't complain of the sacrifice. They even do all they can to ensure a long and healthy life to the disabled person.

If this is not something to admire and respect, I don't know what is. And it must be a special talent/blessing. No amount of philosophy can do it.

Philosophy, in fact, will make you ask the kind of questions I ask, questions that don't help: how fair is it? How fair is it to the handicapped person? How far should we go to protect them? Is love enough? Is it enough love? And once you're gone, on whom falls the burden?
