I just finished a rather marvelous novel set in Roman Britannia - MEDICUS - and realized that just last weekend I was reading Steven Saylor's ROMA. Tonight I'm going to be watching the HBO series ROME. In 2006, so many great books came out in both Roman and Greek studies that I could hardly keep up with them. It's almost like, after so many fine books in the past 20 years exploring the Germanic, Gothic, and other influences on late antiquity, Rome's "in" - at least briefly. I'm enjoying it, because surely it can't last?
*sips her wine* It's odd, since most of us here have spent about a decade explaining to others that we're interested in ancient history, and gotten the "deer in the headlights" look back. Bryan's visit just seems part of people being interested in very-long-dead Romans. Fascinating!
That's as profound as I'm gonna get today lol
