    Professor Ward-Perkins, could you elaborate on this bit from a previous post of yours:

    Where is this published? I'd be very interested in reading it. This is in part because I am kind of fascinated by Roman military equipment (I have a nice gladius replica and three pila replicas). Additionally, some years ago, there was some criticism of the movie "The 13th Warrior", in which one of the Vikings was seen wearing a murmillo helmet. I took the position that with all the Vikings popping up in Constantinople, it would not be too improbable that one of them latched onto such a helmet and brought it home.
