Whelan is the firstborn son of Dr Egilsson, skilled in chemistry he helps his father mixting medicines, shy and even paranoic, he was emoionally too close to his now deceased mother after messing around with the dark arts to try to bring her back he suffered an attack of schizophrenia, or was it demoniac possession?, thing is, he was confined in an asylum and as usual in the 19th century experimental drugs and procedures were tryed on him.

In a bloody and not yet explained masacre he managed to escape the asylum, now he lives with his father under his supervision and treatment fearing that that something that caused the masacre in the asylum would return and do the same in this town.
