I remember reading about the series waaaaaaay back when (?early summer, 2005?), and thinking "hmmmff! two common soldiers for the 'common viewpoint' - that sounds dumb."
Dumb ME.
I think the fact they've created two characters so perfectly polar in character but a perfect match, has helped to ground the entire series. People watch and learn when they care about what happens to characters they've come to care about . . . and though ALL of the acting has been superb, I think Vorenus and Pullo provide that perfect grounding. I am actually WORRYING (oh dear, time for a therapist) about whether they'll be forced to fight each other in the great final confrontation between Antony and Octavian, and if the authors kill either of them off, or don't leave them in a good way, I shall be very upset.
So hard to imagine, only two more episodes!
