B Kemp et al [2007] have identified a new founder mtDNA haplotype D
from a male tooth [circa 8350 BCE,cal]at the On Your Knees Cave,
Alaska.A total of 47 related samples are mainly located along the western American seaboard from Alaska to Patagonia.Over 50% are in Ecuador.Preliminary analysis by G Horvat [2007] has provided a link with 10 Japanese samples. It is possible that Jomon people from the Japanese Archipeligo migrated to America prior to 8350 BCE. Additional study is required to ascertain the validity of this speculation.
