Actually, I've gotta admit I never really stopped to think about it before seeing the point raised in the one of recent episodes of Rome, and then... Heraklia hit on that as well.
Antony was certainly a big spender, and all sources agree on that :-) And he might have been greedy, as some of his actions might suggest. But I'd think he should have gotten quite a lot of richness from his participation to war in Gaul, he was anyway one of the highest COs, so his share must have been quite high. If I remember correctly, he HAD lots of debts, but still... Was he able to have already spent it all in a few years? It is also true that even, if he hadn't spent it all, he might still want more, especially in view of defending his position after Caesar's assassination.
I follow Heraklia... does anybody know if Octavian ever actually inherited Caesar's money?
P.S.: I'd have loved to go shopping with Antony! ;-)
