I loved Carcopino's book on Cicero. It is biased and, as you say, Silvia, malicious, but Cicero deserves all of it for having given the same treatment to his victims.
I think what is attractive about this weasel of a man (LOL Aulus, how apt) is that he comes alive in his contradictions and in some way we can see in him an epitome of the human condition. He could be someone we know. Ourselves, in fact.
