Prompted by a friend's comment I checked my notes and came to realize that by the Ides of March Caesar's legions were probably *not* in Brundisium but had already crossed to Greece.
I suppose some troops would be waiting to serve as Caesar's escort but in fact the only active legion in Italy (south of the Padus) was the one in Tiber island. Both Octavian and Antony recruited among the discharged veterans and Antony eventually recalled four legions from Macedonia - of which three left him for "young Caesar".
