Hanson is not at all too controversial although he has a rather eccentric viewpoint. I applaud his attempts to understand the common man in Greece in ancient times. It is a significant and entirely overlooked part of history.I for one, would love to talk to him about the rural agricultural base which supported the great city states. This is after all, the root of the economy which enabled the history and I think, quite important.
