I received a 3 box set of DVDs for Christmas and since enduring all three hours of the production, I have been trying to think of something nice to say about, “Alexander Myth And Legend”. I was greatly surprised that I had never heard of the production and now I can see why. Apparently, no one else could think of anything nice to say about it either. It went directly into the $5.00 sale bin at Blockbuster, and for very good reason.
It is terrible. It was made in Greece on a very low budget and has the resultant amateurish quality necessitated by lack of money. Costumes are made from cheap, thin, cotton, fabrics with obvious puckered seams and machine made turned hems. . The tiny sets are clumsily cobbled together giving the appearance of a middle school play. The historical errors are endless and glaring and there is the usual official slant necessary to get funding from the government of Greece. Everything made in Greece has a political agenda.
I can say in it’s favor that the exterior shots of Greece, Alexandria, and the old Persian Empire are interesting and original. That’s about it.
If you get a chance to see it.......miss it.
