Titus asks:
I have a PowerMac G4 AGP (sawtooth) w/ a 500Mhz CPU and I would like to upgrade my video card. After much searching on the net I still am not sure which card would be best for my Mac. So I thought I would asked the group what they think is the best solution for my problem. My present card is an old ATI Pro 128 that I'm sure came in this unit when it was new. So what I would like to know is which video card would give the best resolution and response time (i.e. game play/frame rate) at the best (lowest) price?
I have been told never to answer a question with a question, so I'll ask two.... What is the AGP bus speed (you say "old" so I am guessing 2X maybe 4X)? and what GPU series is the ATI card? If it is 2X or 4X AGP you can get one cheap...relatively since Macs tend to be overpriced... but frame rate will be poor compared to the new Radeon and GeForce GPU's on newer games.
