I also had the misfortune of watching this budget episode; it was a weak effort from the BBC trying to cash in on the current popularity of classics. The casting was appalling, I just couldn’t get over Caesars’ accent, and that pleb from Eastenders was equally bad. The costumes were probably the worst I’ve ever seen, what was that on their heads? I could make a better helmet using tinfoil and a stolen horse tail. The battle scenes were a diabolical montage of flashing scenes of light and some eccentric director waving a sword around, total shocker. Either do it properly with a budget of more than a grand or don’t bother at all!
