I was so excited when I logged on the other day after a long absence and discovered this group.
It's pretty much Roman imperial coinage for me all the way, at least at the moment, with the emphasis on bronzes. I started using Roman coins in my teaching several years ago through the generosity of Ancient Coins for Education (I should maybe offer more info on them in another post) and am now thoroughly hooked.
Our school collection is concentrated on the inexpensive late bronzes from Constantine's time on, but though these are not valuable, they're extremely interesting (at least to me :D)We also have some cool Byzantine coins.
I'm still getting up to speed on the new school year, but maybe sometime we can initiate some discussion of the nifty little propaganda messages that the emperors -- or their spin doctors -- incorporated into coin design.
Thanks for the welcome -- I look forward to learning a lot!
