According to John Keay's India: A History, during the sixth century there were at least three dozen dynasties ruling in different parts of India. He goes on to say that between 900 and 1100, there were thirty more dynasties which rose and fell in northern India alone.

I've been wondering why I find this medieval period of Indian history so confusing.
