    I ad mit I was just trying to provoke Heraklia. The truth is that I doubt if the Republic would have survived in any form had Caesar lived and continued as Dictator. He might not have had the genius of Augustus to create an imperial system with republican trappings.

    Discussions like this almost make me miss the contributions of Trimalchio ...
