Father Donovan needed to know what name we chose to be known by in history. This needed to be included in the "Cornerstone Document" which was scheduled to be read by me this afternoon.
I called a meeting in mid-morning and all of us presented ideas and entered into discussion about this vital identificational element in our lives. We finally arrived, around noon, at a "maxi-majority" vote. Father Donovan now had our name and could write it into our historic first document. We all returned to our homes happy and with a heightened sense of group identity.
We all understood that this new title for our people did not exclude our ethnic and cultural heritages, but was a verbal symbol for the coalition of these heritages into our new society.
We all knew the ideological contents that would comprise the Cornerstone Document, but nevertheless looked forward to seeing Father Donovan's arrangement of them. It was a festive occassion and, this afternoon, everyone would dress their best and bring food to share.
I, Lorenzo and some of the other Spaniards went out to the woods to fetch more firewood to add to the supply in the "Town Hall". The fires in the hearths and in our hearts would be bright tonight.
