I just did a quick web search for "Happy Lent" and came across some interesting blogs and other journals. Here is what Anne Rice had to say on her fan phone line (this was at the end of a msg about Marti Gras:
"I'd like to say Happy Lent, but I don't think Happy Lent is appropriate. Let's just all say that we look forward to Easter Sunday and we look forward to Christ rising from the dead, as always, we look forward to everything that that means and now as we enter into a separate (?) part of our lives we have the joy of Fat Tuesday behind us."
As a Christian, this statement has real resonance with me. I think many folks (myself included at times) want to put a happy glow/shine on everything. Lent is not one of those things that should have this glow. As rosalie mentioned, most if not all religions have their times of reflection & self-examination. Lent is Christians time to do this...At least to my way of thinking.
