...brings me back to reality with a sudden jolt. "What?" I mumble. "Not another Springfest planning meeting... Pleeeeease... Nooooo!"
Apil shakes me awake and then calms my fears. "It's OK, Mac! You're just dreaming, again! Calm down..."
As I look around and discover I am still in the Kash Bowl, and not being dragged off to another meeting. I breathe a great sigh of relief and then notice that my bowl is empty. I look with suspicion at Apil, but he is the picture of innocence. Soknii, however, has a rather guilty look on his face. Ah well... that's the price one pays for nodding off in the middle of things. I ante up and Caily supplies me with a fresh bowl. After a few sips, things start to come back to me. NAMES... Names for Juniorette... are swirling around in my head. "Kashi", "Kashette", "Inanna", "Rachel", "Valentine"... The list goes on and on.
I stare bemusedly at the anxious faces. Everyone wants to get this over and done with. Juniorette looks at me with some concern as she sidles away from Sokni and Dinner Plato. Herme has come over to keep an ostrich eye on the proceedings and to make sure those two don't decide to make a meal of her chick. She stands menacingly behind the pair and awaits the decision.
"The judges have decided...." I begin. Then I realize that there ARE no judges. None of these stalwarts has stepped forward to help me make a decision. "Well, now! I'm certainly not going to do this on my own!" Juniorette, who is getting bigger by the day, has hopped up onto the table and tips her head inquisitively. "Since it's to be your own name, we'll just let you decide!" I explain. She responds with a bob of the head and a "meeeep!" Slowly, I recite the list of names to her. At Kashi, she turns her head away. The same with Valentine and Rachel. However, Inanna and Kashette both seem to draw her attention. Back and forth, and round and round I go with those two names. Neither seems to strike her fancy more than the other. I suppose, to be named for either a famous place or a goddess would be an honor, either way.
Finally, Herme steps up to the table and gives the mahogany a couple of sharp raps. This startles us all, but it seems to be Juniorette's attention she is trying for. She gives her chick a hard stare and then raps the table in front of me. It is only then that I discover a stray coin which has slid under the edge of my drinking bowl. Since the chick cannot seem to decide, we'll let fate take a hand. I pick up the coin and announce; "Heads will be Inanna and tails will be Kashette!"
With a practiced flip of my thumb, I send the silver circle spinning high in the air. As it comes down, Apil makes an instinctive grab for it, but Caily raps his knuckles before he can reach it. It falls to the table with a tinny "ting" and lands with the picture of a running horse uppermost. "Tails is it, Ladies and Gents! Henceforth, Juniorette will no longer be 'Juniorette', but will be officially knowns as 'Kashette'! Thus the fates have decreed!" Kashette looks ar Herme and says "Mee-eep?" Herme responds with a throaty "Ga-lummp!" And thus it is settled.
"And now, Caily... a round for the house, if you please." I shake out a fistful of coins from my purse and pass them to the lovely lady who watches over both the kash bar and the cash box.
