I'm not always around, and so I haven't had the chance to respond to your post to me earlier.
I think the Complete Families is a great recommendation, and very useful for those trying to understand how royal families fit together. Most other sources - that the average person has access to - tend to shortchange those other than the most prominent. Yes, the earliest dynasties are covered the least, which I wish were not the case. However, as you say, not a surprise.
Money spent on the book was very well worth it.
