The last few days had been quite aa adventure for Cadno. His employer, Mrs. Blatand, turned out to be a medium. At least that explained why she'd been able to have a long chat with his Aunt.

The cottage of the gardener, which was now his, was almost as well warded as his own workshop had ever been. He found the traditional earth cross, painted in nightshade ink just inside the door, and many small herbs scattered about. The herbs were fragrent, but further investigation revealed that they had all been enchanted, as well. Doing a little research with the grimores revealed that even the plantings surrounding the building were know for their protective quatlities. Cadno placed a few simple warding around the property, then, without disturbing the exsisting spells. He would have to researchthem carefuly before disrupting them.

The next step was setting up his apparatus. In the process he broke his vial of graveyard dust. Good thing there was a ready supply at hand. Graveyard dust had so many uses, especialy in wards against the undead.

That night found Cadno wandering through the cemetary, scraping up small quantities of dust from several graves. It was important to take the dust from several areas, since it was the essence of the cemetary you were after, not a particular grave. Cadno noted that there was a great deal of trampled snow in every part of the graveyard, even where no new graves had been dug in 100 years. And either this cemetary have really big moles, or it had ghouls. He would have to take specific precautions next time he came for a visit.

Cadno retreated to the edge of the cemetary and removed a vial of what looked to be talcum powder. Puting a bit into his hand, he uttered a simple incantation and blew the dust into the air over his path. As he returned home, the snow quickly filled in his tracks, eraseing them compleatly.
