Discovery Reveals Ancient Bison Hunting in Illinois: Humans hunted the animals 1,800 years earlier than previously thought.
From the Winter 2005-06 issue of American Archaeology (a publication of The Archaeological Conservancy).
On the final day of a study along serendipitious low water of the Illinois River, archaeologists came across the remains of a killed bison dated to circa 300 BC, along with an associated spear point. Bison may have been more prevalent earlier this far east.
