Lovely Lotus slides into the seat beside me and quietly explains some very important facts regarcing the sexing of ostrich chicks. I listen intently, my color gradually rising.
"And I'm supposed to stick my finger WHERE???" I exclaim, incredulously.
"Right there!" she replies, pointing with wide-eyed innocence. "But be sure to wash your hands!"
"Oh! I'll be sure to do that, all right!" I continue. "With soap and boiling water and sand and whatever else I can get hold of!"
"I mean... before!" she grins. "Wouldn't want Junior to get an infection!"
