It has been nearly week that we have been sailing. The wind has not been kind. We are down to a very small amount of water and no food for supplies.

Sarah leans over Henry, rocking him. The small boy has been unconscious for over a day and we now fear the worse. I look at little Emily- her eyes are sunken low and darker than night. I worry for what thoughts fill her little head as she sits all day, watching her ailing brother from across the boat.

Night falls. We see lights across the landscape and are overjoyed by it. A town! This holds such promise for little Henry!

We pull up on shore an hour later and men greet us there, speaking a foreign tougne (they spoke English, and I am only versed in Irish). Sarah knew both languages and translated, though roughly.

They took Henry into the town to see the doctor. Sarah, Emily and I were to remain on the boat until the doctor would come in the morining, so not to bring the disease into the town. They handed us clothes, had us place our old clothes and nearly all of our belongings into a burlap sack to be burned. I kept only our family Bible, my tool set, and Sarah's box of keepsakes from the homeland.

The three of us sat all night, holding eachother closely. There was not a word from the village until dusk the next night, and let me tell you, those were the longest hours of my life.

When the doctor arrived, he spoke softly to Sarah. Sarah burst into tears, and I feared the worse, but then she smiled, saying that Henry would live! Thank the Lord!

The three of us were checked out and deemed well. Still, we were placed into a home on the edge of town, told to stay away from all other town citizens for at least one week to be mindful of symtpoms. The doctor's wife and some neighbors brought us food.

The house itself was quite large. Built of stone and brick, it resided on a hillside looking over the entire ocean. It used to belong to the daughter of the mayor whom was the schoolteacher nearby, but she had married and so the house was left as it was, as her husband had a home already built that they moved into. Not only was the house already furnished, but there were resources scattered across the land, bountiful forrests, rich soil, and an ocean full of fish nearly jumping into our nets.

When the next week was spent, Sarah, Emily and myself left the house, dressed in clean clothing. We walked into town, this foreign land named New Cornwall....
