    Yes, Burkert is a brilliant - because extremely daring - scholar. His book on Greek religion is just fantastic, and he wrote an article about Damaratus, the hero- or stable lad-sprung Spartan king (stories about his paternity vary according to the source's political loyalties) that is one of the best ever written about how internal rivalries might have been played out in Sparta.
