You've hit exactly the problem I'm having with Hinds' Caesar. Until "Pharsalus" we never saw anything of the charming Caesar. The only hint was in "Pharsalus" when he welcomed Brutus and Cicero, and by that time it was so far out of the physical portrayal of the character that it was phony. He's been playing Caesar as if he's got a rod up his spine, there's no flexibility. Intelligence, determination, but I'm not reading any passion or charisma. His lips are wrong, too, especially as he keeps them straight and locked much of the time. He just doesn't 'make' it for me.
