After much pressing by members of the group, Glynnis and I have decided that we will design territorial (landscape), climate, and resource maps of the islands. We would like to see each island with it's unique climate and resources, leading to trading between settlements, or conflict ahead.
PLEASE LET US KNOW ASAP IF YOU HAVE CERTAIN CLIMATE TYPES/RESOURCES IN MIND FOR YOUR SETTLEMENT (AND THE LOCATION OF YOUR SETTLEMENT) SO THAT WE CAN TAKE THAT INTO CONSIDERATION AS WE MAKE THE MAP FRI/SAT.
Here are some of the ideas we were tossing around last night:
THE NORTH ISLAND: Rather flattened terrain, perhaps a small valley at most. Full of forrests and prairie for settlers to farm.
THE SOUTH ISLAND: Very mountainous, a desert as well. Full of mineral resources, caves, etc.
THE EAST ISLAND: Large in fishing resources. While smaller in size, it is a great site for ports and fisheries. The best site for shipping as the water is deep enough to the east of the island for large boats to pull easily to it's docks.
THE WEST ISLAND: Smaller in size with a volcano at the center. A narrow beach outlines the entire island while vasts forrests and farmland fill the area between. Fewer resources, risk of volcanic erruption, but perhaps that is appealing to some of our colonists?
As for size, we came up with some rough ideas about real-life comparisons: The North Island is the land area of Oregon, The south Island is the land area of Colorado, the East Island is the land area of West Virginia, and the West Island is the land area of South Carolina (what can we say, we're American- it was the easiest comparison method, lol).
The climate of the entire region is more of a temperate climate so that we can have cold winters and hot droughts. This will vary slightly for each island. The islands themselves have been identified to be located "to the north". Whether this means off the coast of Maine or off the coast of Florida has yet to be decided (comments welcome!).
As of now, we have the Irish settling to the Northeast coast of the North Island. We also have the British settlement of North Cornwall on the East Island. Ramla asked that she is a native tribe to the region, located on the South Island. We have had some ideas from other members that there are settlers whom are Dutch, German, Scottish, Turkish, and possibly other countries- please let us know which islands you wish to reside on and we'll place you. Martlett/Rafferty, please let us know where on the East Island (N/S/E/W) you wish New Cornwall to be located (I was thinking the east side so that you'd have a shipping port- let me know if this works for you).
Thanks for your comments, welcome new members, and we will try to get this map together soon!
