Elswith: good call with the Duomo of Modena. I saw it once but did not remember the sculptures, so I dug up two pictures to get an idea: one and two. (The English text is sort of weird...)
I *seem* to recall that this bas-relief is the first figurative representation of Arthur in art. I think a good Arthur book with iconographic sources could confirm this.
Women warriors: a thorny subject, and slightly off-topic. I believe that in all times there have been women who for a variety of reason went to fight with the men, but always in disguise. Whenever they were discovered they were sent home, but some managed to fool theirEven leaving Eowyn aside, there are many documented instances of this happening during the Napoleonic Wars and the American Civil War.
