    Brehon law forbade the corporal punishment of the sons (and daughters) of kings. Any discipline to these children must leave no physical mark.

    Levels of compensation were decreed for violations.

    In addition, these children were protected from being given sobriquets or nicknames, most likely from being given the unplesant sorts that tend to stick to children.
