    Sandronius grumbles...

    500 men... 600, maybe... just a cohort per city... mm... a nothing for large cities as Sparta the other indipendants are!

    1,500 men... just 750 D. at the current slave price... too few to drag Roma in war! That is to say: Fight our war please, here 750 D per year.
    No, it is not good for Roma!
    Sparta and the indipendants in cacat sunt! And they just lost Megalopolis.

    Scaurus your idea is not wrong but:

    1 - further than provide the proper number of auxiliares at the beginning of each year, those men will serve where Roma will need;

    2 - that is to say Sparta and the indipendants have to submit to Roma their foreign politic and military also;

    3 - Sparta and the indipendants will provide reinforcements for their troops, while Roma will take charge for the maintenance;

    4 - Finally Sparta and the indipendants have to contribute towards the expense paying the proper taxes to the Aerarium;

    5 - in return Sparta and the indipendants will federate with Roma receiving the status of Socii, keeping their respective citizenships and governements;

    6 - Roma will take charge to grant Sparta, Messene, Megalopolis and Argos freedom.

    What's the proper number of auxiliares? 1,500 men per city.

    -------------------------

    OOC - 5-600 men per city is the correct (and historical) number of auxiliares each federated city had to provide in each yearly conscription. But historically the federated cities was many more than those shown in the Gazetteer. So better think to a number that can give the equivalent of one legio from that region, that's about 1,500 men average per each city level (the number of a standard city garrison).
