Now that I've managed to kill Caesar's enemy Cato, I'll try to bring to life his good friend Gaius Matius.
Matius was an equestrian, a gentleman and a great friend. After Caesar's death he was blamed for mourning him, and wrote a beautiful letter to Cicero explaining how friendship ought to be stronger than the politics of the day. You can read it here. There is also a short biographical note about Matius here although I think Calvena was not a real cognomen, just one of Cicero's malicious jokes.
CJC, now please change my status to Caesarean (what a relief!) and when you have time, fill me on what's been happening... even in a letter to Matius, if you will!
