Lepidus spoke to his men and encouraged them as he announced that the division of spoils at 95% was being tallied for them, the victors. Unproductive as they were, he would confiscate 30 estates. After the night’s rest, legios X and XI would march back south toward Hasta and then on to Dertona as they made sure loyalties of the smaller towns and villages belonged to Rome still. From there he would continue on looking for the main body of forces under the command of Praetor Rufus and receive further instruction. The scouts would continue to probe for the enemy while on the march. The Via Aemilia was too open a space to meet the enemy if they were still traveling in full force. The southern road was far safer and had many good locations to set an ambush should an opportunity arise. Nonetheless, the men where prodded to maintain their discipline and alertness while moving on foot. No shortcuts in building the overnight castras would be tolerated.
