Gnaeus received the messenger in his study.
“I guees I can delay this no longer. Fine, send him in,” he told the slave.
He looked back down at his desk as the man left the room. Back to my letter, he thought…
Sextus,
When will you be returning? How is father faring? I know you are seeking the approval of Cato’s will among the exiles, and I know that must be grueling work. Let me know how you are doing and if you need any assistance. I hear rumors, brother, that you are encouraging Senators to return to Rome? Is this true? I think, for my sake, you had better explain your intentions to me.
I know father has reconciled with the man, but, in his, ‘absence,’ we must protect ourselves, not aid Caesar. Unless, of course, you send them back still with malice in their hearts. Some enlightenment please, brother.
I remain,
Gnaeus Pompeius at Antioch
