    I hand down the translation of the third epigram of Martial that was given to to all of you to be translated. Here is the translation:


    MARTIALIS, Ep. I, 1
    Translation by Tanaquil Sergius



    Here he is, the one you are reading, the one you ask for,

    Martialis, known all over the world

    for his witty books of epigrams:

    and this fame which you, attent reader, have given him,

    while he is still alive and able to feel it,

    few poets have even after their death...
