Plaque looks fantastic but the 3D process that I mentioned isn't using shadow to create the 3D effect.

You are creating several layers of the same thing over and over. The ctrl alt and arrow keys duplicate the original layer and "nudge" it over a couple of pixels so you can see the layer underneath so it almost becomes a tiered effect.

Unless you are talking about something else, in which case, you've lost me entirely. *g*
