OOC: Caesar sends his most trusted non-com to distribute the orders to the legions. // These commanders were culled from the Civil Wars, please report any errors (i.e. someone dead or historically too far elsewhere) immediately.
In Tergeste, The Centurion had not seen much of Agrippa, the lad had been dutifully serving with his contubernalis, which meant marching on foot. Though as Caesar's cadet-aides, they were permitted to ride with him, Agrippa would have none of it. To his messmates' dread, he insisted they march with the rankers.
At any rate, The Centurion had work to do. He had just shaved when a messenger entered his tent without knocking. Only a message of urgency from Caesar would give ANY soldier in camp the balls to walk in on this man.
Before making the rounds to get the orders to the Legates, he decided to have a look at them.
The messenger was waiting to be dismissed. But, he decided to make him jump a bit: "What the hell are you waiting for? A kiss? Get the hell out of here!" The soldier jumped, saluted and sprinted out. The Centurion smiled as he unrolled the scroll and read it over:
Consul's Orders for the Legates:
The First Italica under Gaius Fabius is to move out to the east immmediately, and there set up a base camp and await orders.
In front of them, the Tenth under Gaius Trebonius will march farther east into the lands of Scordisci, in Pannonia to a town called Marsonia. There they will also establish a camp well-fortified against heavy assault, as this is deep in enemy territory. They are to initiate reconnaisance immediately.
Gaius Calvisius Sabinus will take the the Twelfth alongside Gaius Vibius Curius and the Fourth Cavalry northeast into the borderlands betwixt Noricum and Pannonia. These are Taurisci lands with some good grazing area for the horses. Camps and reconnaissance expected, and possibly gathering some auxiliary troops.
Quintus Valerius and the Second and Lucius Munatius Plancus and the Third will remain in Tergeste awaiting orders.
This last one is crucial. These two legions are relatively untried, but any of the three prongs of our invasion may become overwhelmed, lo, I may be as well. Their assistance may prove crucial.
For my part, I will take the Custodes south to meet my wayward cousin and disperse his army. I do not foresee a defeat, but for security, I shall bring the Eleventh cavalry under Gaius Volusenus Quadratus.
Distribute these orders forthwith Centurion.
He gasped! Caesar knew he would read it? Hmm, that was embarassing. But then, the old man knew everything, didn't he? The Centurion wondered where he would be assigned.
There was a small note at the bottom of the scroll.
You, my friend, will be with me initially as Primuspilus of the Cohortes Custodes. From there we will put you where you will most likely die.
With that, the hoary veteran let out a chuckle.
OOC: X, XII, I, IX, IV will be in position in 2 days IRL. CR and XI will march with Caesar south immediately to intercept Lucius Caesar at Arupium arriving in one day IRL.
