I didn't particularly like the self-assured, urbane Brutus portrayal in the series "Rome" (HBO BBC) which is quite contrary to how I imagined him.
Colleen McCullough's portrayal was a little different from the idealistic Brutus we are all familiar with, made famous by Shakespeare. She portrayed Brutus as an oafish, slow individual, almost a dolt of sorts, hardly the man whom Antony would praise (again, Shakespeare) as the 'noblest Roman of them all'.
I actually imagined Brutus to be a withdrawn, reflective sort of person and not very sophisticated either, certainly not the smooth way in which he has been portrayed in the current "Rome" series. I'm not sure where the writers are going with his characterization and it should be interesting to see how this all pans out as the series progresses.
