(This question gets asked occasionally. It might be worth adding to the image FAQs.)
Here are some things you can try when IE only allows you to save images as bitmap files (.bmp).
First try to clean your browser's cache (a.k.a. the Temporary Internet Files folder):
- Choose Tools > Internet Options.
- Click the General tab.
- Click Delete Files in the Temporary Internet files section of the tab. (This may take a few minutes depending on the number of files in your cache.)
- Click OK.
If that doesn't solve the problem, try this:
- Choose Tools > Internet Options.
- Click the General tab.
- Click Settings in the Temporary Internet files section of the tab.
- Click View Objects. You'll see a new window titled Downloaded Program Files.
- In the Status column, remove any files that appear as Unknown or Damaged. To do this, right-click the file name, and click Remove.
- Click Yes.
- Close the Program Files window, and click OK twice.
