    Tabernae and Officinae

    Tabernae and officinae are shops and small workshops in front of the house.

    The ordinary types are
    caupona - public-houses;

    pistrinum - mill or bakery;
    fullonica - wash room, dye-works;
    and
    atriensis - the caretaker and gatekeeper of the domus

    Atrium

    The atrium consists of an implivium - a vessel for the collection of rain water. Beside the vessel is the holy table and the cartibulum - an urn.
    The complivium is an opening in the roof for to let in the daylight and let the rain pour down in implivium.
    The adjoining rooms are the cubicula - resting room and the ala - room for everyday use.

    Viridarium

    An andron - corridor is the connection between the atrium and the veridarium - a garden with fountains, statues and the hortus - the kitchen garden. Round the veridarium is a perystilium.
    The adjoining rooms to the veridarium is the culina - kitchen, the lararium for lari - the family gods who protect the the home, the balneum - bathrooms with water of different temperatures, and the gynaeceum - the women's departement.

    The Perystilium

    The house has an enormous garden. It is decorated with a canal, small waterfalls, fishes, small temples, nymph grottos, statues of gods and an outdoor dining room.
