Wonderful crit., Cimon, and so quotable! I look forward eagerly to seeing the show in November.
I shall not, however, in the meantime be following the discussions on this thread, still less participating in them, since I do not want my judgment of the series as a drama to be influenced by "what they have got wrong" or even "what they have got right". In any case, it is not meant to be history. The historical adviser to the series is quoted in a feature in the Sunday Times (UK) this week: "It's the distinction between being historically accurate and being historically authentic." And I am sure that is how Cimon was judging it. As I intend to. After all, contemporary sources for the period are biased, and near contemporary ones suspect!
