450g (1 lb.) lean stewing steak
    1 large kidney
    225g (1/2 lb) turnip
    225g (1/2 lb) carrots
450g (1 lb.) small scrubbed new potatoes
    2 large onions
    110g (1/4 lb) mushrooms
    150ml (1/2 cup) ground oatmeal
    Home-brew ale
    Bisto gravey
    Seasoned flour

METHOD Heat a little oil in a stewing pan. Roll pieces of meat and kidney in seasoned flour and seal in the hot oil. Add sufficient home-brew ale to cover. Bring to the boil and simmer gently for 75 minutes. Add chopped carrots, turnip, onions and oatmeal. Return to the boil and simmer for another 15 minutes. Add mushrooms and Bisto gravey and simmer another 8 minutes before serving.
