Domitius Ahenobarbus saw Sexts beaking camp as his legion was doing the same.
He hopped on his horse as the troops began their long file out onto the road to Ephesus and rode to catch Sextus up in person.
When he arrived: “Sextus, son of Magnus!”
Sextus rolled his eyes and turned in his saddle to see the old man riding up to him. He waved at him through the clouds of dust.
Gnaeus Domitius approached and said haughtily: “Just where do you think you’re going? Syria is THAT way!” he said, pointing east with his thumb over his shoulder. “We discussed this, young man. You were to collect your father and leave.” The last word was almost spat.
Sextus was in no mood. “I am addressing the Senate in Ephesus, and you won’t stop me.”
Domitius knew of Pompeian tantrums, and so played his hand accordingly. “Good, you will be there, then, to see my address as well. For now, you will be my vanguard. I will be in the rear with my legion. Understood?” He didn’t wait for an answer before riding back to his legion.
Sextus rolled his eyes and shook his head.
OOC: Domitius is following directly behind Sextus in a column marching the II Republica and 500 cavalry. They will arrive simultaneously in 2 days IRL
