Brutus did not back down, despite Sextus’ proud anger. His face had inverted, and he was using his stoicism to the greatest extent. Brutus was not a man who normally socked others, but he was tempted. Porcia, despite her appearance, was very aware of the goings on around her and thought to let them sort it out. She looked to Sextus first. His eyes were wild and menacing. Then, she noted Brutus and his irate expression that looked more becoming on her deceased father. Finally, her gaze went to Pompey the Great, what would he be saying now?
She endeavored to speak amidst the staring competition. Porcia shook her head,
“Stop it, both of you!” She said loudly, amazing both Sextus and Brutus. The anger in the room had turned into intense confusion, “You’re both making fools of yourselves!” Porcia tore herself from Brutus.
“He’s being honest Brutus, he saved me from committing suicide. There was nothing malicious.” Brutus seemed to calm and back down. “Sextus, you were not very kind.” She said sternly and with deadly conviction, “I have sat by your father’s side for a week. The guilt I had was immense, but when I learned of my father’s own death I felt not only guilty but worthless as well. Brutus was wrong to have jumped to conclusions, but you must understand, we’re all shaken by these events. Now is not the time to be pointing fingers and saying offensive things.” Even the wind outside had stopped blowing…
