Gracious Matron Cornellia,
Wife of the esteemed Pompeius Magnus, greetings. News of my long time friend and your husband has only lately reached me, and not through official channels but privately. Hence, what I know is no doubt sketchy at best. Though the consensus seems to be that he is resting and in a stable state.
If you have anything to add to this news, please tell me. As what I know is what Rome does as well, and perhaps you can dispell certain false details. Do your stepsons send you word and condolence?
If you require anything of me, personally, I beg you as a relative to please come to me. My house in Rome is at your disposal should Picenum become lonely, it is vacant and should suit you and yours in comparable comfort to what you are accustomed. In the meantime, I will have any and all news and correspondence sent to you which is of relevance to your husband and sons in the east.
With warm regards and sincere condolences,
CAESAR
