Transparent PNGs

I apologize if this is a stupid question, but does Internet Explorer have a problem with transparent .pngs? I made one for a homesite and it looks allright in Firefox and Mozilla, but the transparency is not showing in IE. There's an ugly white backgroud there! *sulks*
