I was recently reading my volume one book of the cambridge collection on Japanese history and found an interesting speculation based off of parts of the Kojiki, Nihon Shoki and Man'youshu. Apparently the intrument called a koto was used for shamanic purposes too. I have an entry under my Lady Inari identity in one of my journals about it. That was a rather interesting tidbit.
