Antony decided after the previous night’s dinner that this was no more than a race to find the girl. One way or another, pirates could not b allowed to circumvent Roman authority, any Roman authority.
Antony ordered the First Italica to form into centuries outside the gates of the city. At dawn, they charged in and began a massive search, invading homes and shops to the great displeasure of the people. Pompey, of course, was immediately aware of the situation, having kept an eye on Antony the whole time.
Now the question was, did he follow suit or try and stop the embarrassment from continuing? The damage was done, the people were mad…but this was also likely to produce results…maybe he could cover the gates to ensure no one escaped Antony’s net.
